About Base64 Encode / Decode

Encode text as Base64 or decode a Base64 string into readable text. Use the local conversion to inspect a text payload while keeping the distinction between encoding and encryption clear.

How to use Base64 Encode / Decode

  1. Choose encode or decode.
  2. Paste the text or Base64 value.
  3. Inspect the converted text and copy the output.

When to use this tool

  • Inspect a Base64-encoded text field.
  • Create a text encoding sample for an integration test.

Limits to know before using it

Base64 is reversible encoding, not a secrecy mechanism. Arbitrary binary data may not decode as readable text, and Base64URL variants can differ from standard Base64.

Data handling and cost

The main operation runs in your browser; tool input is not uploaded for processing. The site can still use session cookies and collect operational or usage data as described in the privacy policy.

Free to use in your browser, with no sign-in needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Encoding and decoding run entirely in your browser. Your data is never sent to any server.

Standard Base64 uses + and / characters which have special meaning in URLs. URL-safe Base64 replaces them with - and _ so the output can be used directly in query parameters or path segments without percent-encoding.

The current version handles text input only. For binary file encoding, use a local tool or the browser's FileReader API in your own code.
